Part of the modern electronic music experience is getting into the nitty gritty of synthesizer circuits, improvised hardware and modifications. At Synth East we’re running a couple of DIY workshops at the Electronic Sound Magazine HQ on Sunday the 23rd of February. They are small, chilled out affairs that last a couple of hours under the direction of Thonk and BeepBoop Electronics. There are two workshops of each type, the first from 11am to 1pm and the second from 1pm to 3pm.
Tape Loop Workshop BeepBoop Electronics
Learn how to make your own tape loops and get started experimenting with tape music. We will explore splicing techniques and modifying cassette cases to create longer loops.

In the ramshackle style of the BBC Radiophonic workshop we will try out recording our own tape compositions using a DIY set up of contact mics, redundant dusty old tape machines and rubbish including a lamp shade….Delia Derbyshire – Blue veils and golden sandsTogether we will imagine and create new sonic landscapes.
There will be loads of time to ask any questions on the day. All equipment provided but feel free to bring your own metal lamp shade, sandwiches and thermos of tea. At the end of the workshop you can take your tape loops home as well as a tape loop starter kit!
The cost of the Tape Loop Workshop is £40 including all instruction and materials.
